The Bundeskartellamt, or Federal Cartel Office, is Germany's national competition regulator, established on January 1, 1958 under the authority of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and headquartered in Bonn. It enforces German and European competition law to keep markets open and competition fair, working to prevent cartels and monitor mergers under the motto "open markets, fair competition." The office has been led by president Andreas Mundt since 2009.
