The Comision Nacional Bancaria y de Valores (CNBV, National Banking and Securities Commission) is an agency of the Mexican Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit with technical autonomy and executive powers over the Mexican financial system, headquartered in Mexico City. Created by Congress in 1995 in response to Mexico's economic crisis by consolidating the previously separate National Banking Commission and National Commission of Values into one decentralized body, it supervises banks and securities operations to guarantee the stability of the financial system while protecting the public interest.
