The Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) is Taiwan's specialized deposit insurance institution, created to safeguard the interests of small depositors amid financial deregulation and a wave of bank runs in early 1985. Its enabling Deposit Insurance Act was promulgated on January 9, 1985 and the corporation itself was established on September 27 of that year; shareholder management passed from Taiwan's Ministry of Finance and Central Bank to the Financial Supervisory Commission in 2013, and today the Financial Supervisory Commission and the Central Bank are its sole shareholders.
