The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is the regulatory body for the securities and commodity markets in India, operating under the administrative domain of the Ministry of Finance within the Government of India. It was established in 1988 as a non-statutory body and given full statutory powers in 1992, and it is headquartered in the Bandra Kurla Complex business district of Mumbai. Its governing preamble charges it with protecting the interests of investors in securities and promoting the development of, and regulating, the securities market.
