Japan's Financial Services Agency is the country's integrated financial regulator, established on July 1, 2000 through the merger of the Financial Supervisory Agency, itself created in 1998, with the Financial System Planning Bureau formerly housed in the Ministry of Finance. It is responsible for overseeing the banking, securities and exchange, and insurance sectors in order to maintain the overall stability of Japan's financial system.
