INDECOPI

INDECOPI, the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Instituto Nacional de Defensa de la Competencia y de la Proteccion de la Propiedad Intelectual), is Peru's specialized autonomous public body responsible for competition oversight and intellectual property protection. It was created by Decree Law No. 25868 on November 24, 1992 during Alberto Fujimori's administration as part of economic reforms supporting the private sector, initially reporting to the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Integration and International Trade Negotiations before becoming autonomous in 2005 under the Prime Minister's office; it is headquartered on Calle de la Prosa in Lima and is currently attached to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
