The Autoriteit Financiele Markten (AFM), known in English as the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets, is the Dutch financial supervisory authority, established on March 1, 2002 as successor to the Securities Board of the Netherlands, which had operated since 1989. Its mandate covers savings, investments, loans, insurance and accounting products across the Netherlands, with three core objectives of making financial markets more accessible, ensuring their smooth operation, and building public confidence in them. Operating under the Ministry of Finance and headquartered in Amsterdam, the AFM sits on the board of supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority and participates in the International Organization of Securities Commissions.
