The Center for Economic Studies is an independent research institute within the Faculty of Economics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, forming the academic core of the wider CESifo research network. It was founded on January 18, 1991 to promote international exchange of research in public finance and other fields of economics through a visiting scholars program that has hosted more than six hundred seventy academics. Since 1994 it has co-published the economics journal Economic Policy.
