The Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics is an economic research institute founded in 1932 as the Cowles Commission for Research in Economics in Colorado Springs by businessman and economist Alfred Cowles. It moved to the University of Chicago in 1939, then to Yale University in 1955 after opposition from the Chicago economics department, becoming the Cowles Foundation there. Based in New Haven, Connecticut and currently directed by Larry Samuelson, it focuses on linking economic theory to mathematics and statistics through both theoretical and empirical research.
