Principles of Economics

Foundational Austrian School Economics Text, 1871

Principles of Economics, first published in 1871, is the founding text of the Austrian school of economics. Carl Menger set out an early theory of subjective marginal utility, arguing that the value of a good derives from individual human judgment about its usefulness rather than from the labor or cost required to produce it, and he traced the origin of money to unplanned individual exchange rather than government design.
