JEL top-level code N: the historical study of economic performance, institutions and events themselves, as distinct from a still-applied management technique that happens to have a historical origin. Belongs here: a concept whose primary content is a historical economic pattern or episode considered as history. Does not belong here: a management or accounting practice still in active present-day use, grouped under Business Administration and Business Economics per this atlas's own JEL convention above, even where the practice originated centuries ago.
