Ragnar Frisch (1895-1973) was a Norwegian economist, joint winner with Jan Tinbergen of the first Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, awarded in 1969. He coined the term econometrics in 1926 and the terms microeconomics and macroeconomics in 1933, and co-founded the Econometric Society, shaping economics as a quantitative, model-based discipline.
