The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2001, that hosts high-level forums for government, business and academic leaders from Asia and other continents to discuss pressing regional and global issues, and it is sometimes called the Asian Davos. It takes its name from the town of Boao in China's southern Hainan province, which has served as the permanent venue for its annual conference since 2002, while its secretariat is based in Beijing. Initiated by 25 Asian countries and Australia, its membership grew to 28 states by 2006, and it is led by chairman Ban Ki-moon and secretary-general Zhang Jun.
