The European Banking Authority is an independent agency of the European Union established on January 1, 2011 to develop regulatory standards and promote supervisory convergence across the EU's banking and financial sector, headquartered at Tour Europlaza in the La Defense district of Paris since June 2019. It plays a central role in EU-wide bank stress testing, implements international banking standards such as Basel III, and has taken on direct supervision of significant asset-referenced and electronic-money tokens as part of its oversight of financial innovation and of critical information-technology service providers to the sector.
