Global Climate Coalition

The Global Climate Coalition was an international lobbying group of businesses, active from 1989 to 2001, that opposed action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and engaged in climate change denial by publicly challenging the scientific consensus on global warming. It was the largest industry group active in climate policy and the most prominent industry voice in international climate negotiations, and it took part in opposition to the Kyoto Protocol and played a role in blocking its ratification by the United States. The coalition recognized internally that it could not deny the scientific consensus, so it worked instead to sow doubt about that consensus and create the appearance of manufactured controversy.
