Regional Research Institute

The Regional Research Institute (RRI) at West Virginia University is a university wide regional science research center serving graduate students and faculty in economics, resource economics, geography, history and sociology. It was established in 1965 by Professor William H. Miernyk, a Harvard trained economist who served as its founding director, and has since supported scholars through research programs involving faculty, graduate students and international networks. The institute conducts interdisciplinary research on the economic and social development of lagging regions and has been described as an internationally recognized center for the advancement of regional science.
