The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) is Switzerland's primary regulator of financial markets, established in 2007 and headquartered in Bern. It supervises banks, insurance companies, stock exchanges, securities dealers and other financial intermediaries, replacing the Federal Banking Commission, which had operated since 1934, by consolidating banking supervision with insurance oversight and anti-money-laundering authority into a single independent body reporting to the Swiss Parliament.
