John Kenneth Galbraith (1908-2006) was a Canadian-American economist and longtime Harvard professor. He wrote bestselling books including The Affluent Society and The New Industrial State, arguing that large corporations and advertising shape consumer demand rather than simply responding to it. He worked within the institutionalist tradition with post-Keynesian sympathies, and served as United States ambassador to India.
